The Power of Coaching
Whenever I write these articles or add something new to the Knowledge Base on my website, it’s always in the hope you’ll find my suggestions useful or motivating or, at the very least, they’ll give you something to think about! Because that’s the kind of value I strive to give my clients in my day-to-day work as a coach.
Over the years, coaching has got quite a bad press. Often that’s because people have jumped on the bandwagon and set themselves up as ‘coaches’ because they mistakenly think they’ll make a lot of money and it’s going to be an easy life. They’re the coaches who pull the reputation of coaching down because they don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t have the experience and knowledge it takes to genuinely coach people, and the flawed pseudo-guidance they give is either useless or does more harm than good. I’ve heard of coaches who have influenced their clients to make catastrophic business decisions, and their clients did it because they trusted what the coach was telling them. That kind of behaviour is wrong on so many counts, not least because a coach should never influence a client to do anything. Telling you what to do is not a coach’s job.
It’s a shame that coaching has so many negative connotations for so many people, because almost everyone could benefit from some expert, professional coaching from time to time. If you do it properly, coaching can be…
